Upper-division Admission
For admission into the upper-division programs of the Chemistry major, students must complete all of the requirements listed above under General Education Core. In addition, they must have earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.0 on college-level coursework, and completed the Senior Exit Examination. In addition, they must have earned a grade of C or better in CHEM 1110, 1111 or CHEM 1112, 1113 , CHEM 1120, 1121 or CHEM 1122, 1123 , CHEM 2100, 2101 , CHEM 2010, 2011 or CHEM 2012, 2013 , and CHEM 2020, 2021 or CHEM 2022, 2023 . Honors sections of chemistry courses will also fulfill the degree requirements. Chemistry Majors are recommended to take honors courses.
Curriculum 1 - ACS Approved Professional Chemistry Curriculum: 59- Hours
This program requires 120 hours for graduation and is designed for students pursuing professional chemists’ career opportunities in industry or government laboratories, and for those students desiring to pursue advanced studies in graduate school.
A minimum of 59 semester hours in Chemistry
A minimum of 59 semester hours in Chemistry is required, 39 of which must be in 3000- or 4000-level courses. The required courses are

- CHEM 1120, 1121 - General Chemistry II and Laboratory (4)
- CHEM 2100, 2101 - Introduction to Analytical Chemistry and Laboratory (4)
- CHEM 2010, 2011 - Organic Chemistry I and Laboratory (4)
- CHEM 2020, 2021 - Organic Chemistry II and Laboratory (4)
- CHEM 3210, 3211 - Physical Chemistry I and Laboratory (4)
- CHEM 3220, 3221 - Physical Chemistry II and Laboratory (4)
- CHEM 3410, 3411 - General Biochemistry I and Laboratory (4)
- CHEM 3420, 3421 - General Biochemistry II and Laboratory (4)
- CHEM 4100 - Scientific Communications (2)

CHEM 4600 is strongly recommended. MATH 2110 is also highly recommended during the sophomore year. This curriculum is based upon recommendations by the American Chemical Society.
