PHTH 5450 - Patient Care Principles (2) Students will be introduced to the basic skills involved in patient transfers, bed mobility, patient positioning, body mechanics, and taking and interpreting vital signs. The teaching of how to use assistive devices (tilt table, parallel bars, walkers, canes, crutches) will be covered. One-third of the course time will be laboratory/psychomotor experience. Students will show proficiency in the performance of these basic physical therapy skills. The course also covers documentation using the SOAP format and functional outcome reporting. The use of a medical chart, abbreviations, and medical terminology will be emphasized. Prerequisite(s): Students must have passed all of the 1st semester course and/or have prior consent of the instructor
