AGSC 6270 - Advanced Agricultural Biosecurity (3)


Advanced Agricultural Biosecurity covers inter-disciplinary topics related to protecting the agriculture food system (including mainly crop, livestock, and food production) from intentional and unintentional threats. The course is invoked with instructional overview and discussion of: (1) the scope, nature and status of current agriculture food system; (2) historical context and several modules on specific threats to plant and animal agriculture, and the food system; (4) Emerging threats of  the reduction of biodiversity, and accidental introduction of exotic species and their invasive potentials; and (3) the social impacts of agro-terrorism. The course will implement student-motivated modules to further enhance the active learning and exploration around the operational cases/envision (including prevention, detection, response and recovery) of agricultural biosecurity per students’ research interests and thesis projects. The course concludes with prospective summarization and identification areas that are still in need of improvement and for future research.
