Mission
The Department of Languages, Literature, and Philosophy offer a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and undergraduate minors in English, Writing, Modern Foreign Languages, and Philosophy and Religious Studies. The Department is an active partner in the Interdisciplinary Studies, Women’s Studies, and Teacher Education programs and offers coursework that is integral to the undergraduate general education curriculum. Instruction in the department is informed by the professional expertise of faculty members who contribute to the development of the body of knowledge in their respective disciplines and apply their knowledge and skills in service to local, regional, national, and international communities.
Accreditation
The teacher education program in English is approved by the Tennessee Department of Education. In addition, the University’s teacher education program is accredited by the National Council on the Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
