AGSC 3140 - Integrative Genetics (3)

This course provides an advanced investigation of genetics, emphasizing the integration of concepts across plant and animal systems. The central dogma of genetic information flow from DNA to RNA and protein will be outlined. Inheritance at the individual and population levels will also be investigated. Students will learn about epigenetic phenomena and their relationship to eukaryotic gene regulation. Chromosomal rearrangements and ploidy levels will be examined. Topics of biomedical importance, such as cancer, development, and genetic abnormalities, will be discussed. An advanced look at recombination and genetic mapping will also be included. This course will be required for students in the biotechnology concentration. Prerequisite(s): BIOL 1110, or BIOL 1111, or BIOL 1120, or BIOL 1121, or AGSC 1600.  This course will be open as an elective to any life science student across the campus.
